Eating Disorders – Disordered Eating

“The thing that is really hard, and really amazing, is giving up on being perfect
and beginning the work of becoming yourself.”

~ Anna Quindlen

Everyone diets.

If you only had the body you wanted… you would be happier, healthier, more successful, in love. So often we attach these tangible and intangible life experiences to body size.

For you, dieting and food infiltrate your thoughts, and a negative body image permeates your daily life.

But diets rarely deliver in the long run, and most dieters find themselves back where they started, minus less self-esteem.

You may have a problem if…

…you diet frequently, skipping meals or cutting out food groups, and you feel tremendous anxiety when you slip up.

…your weight fluctuates all the time.

…you are rigid about food and exercise, and you feel guilt and shame about your eating habits.

…you are preoccupied with food and have negative thoughts and feelings about your body.

…you feel out of control around food.

Eating disorders affect every aspect of your life.

They rob you of your health, your relationships, and your hopes and dreams.

Walking away from an eating disorder and back into a full life requires courage and support.

Even if your struggle never rises to the level of a diagnosable eating disorder, the constant struggle to lose weight and fear of weight gain can be limiting, frustrating, and isolating.

Eating disorders don’t discriminate.

When people hear eating disorder they think thin, white, female, and young. The truth is that eating disorders impact people of all races, sizes, ages, and sexual identities. At least 30 million people are struggling with an eating disorder in the US right now, and every 62 minutes at least one person dies from an eating disorder. (https://anad.org)

It doesn’t have to be that way.

I believe food and body issues are about more than food or your body.

I believe that you can pursue health without focusing on pursuing weight loss.

I believe you can make peace with food and your body.

I believe you deserve a full life that is not limited by how you eat or feel about your body.
