What is your philosophy?
I believe that food and body related issues are a symptom, sometimes of trauma, sometimes of maladaptive coping strategies and sometimes both.
How do I know if you are the right therapist for me?
Your goals are my goals, and if you are unsure of your goals we can create them together. I will meet you where you are and work at the pace most suited for you. I commit to providing you with the tools for attaining self-acceptance, self-compassion and a healthy relationship with yourself and others
Can a therapist really help?
Yes, working together we unpack the source of problematic behaviors and build new coping strategies. Those strategies will allow you to develop a new relationship between food and body based on health, self-compassion and self-care. The major focus of a psychotherapist is often to heal and resolve issues within the clients past or issues related to abuse, addictions or trauma. A therapist holds state required licenses and credentialling
Do you take insurance?
I believe in a patient-centered approach to care and therefore do not believe in limiting your treatment sessions to that which health insurance companies dictate and/or limit. I am an out-of-network provider with insurance companies, however I am of course happy to provide you with a superbill to submit to your insurance company to seek reimbursement according to the terms of your policy. Because of this, payment will be expected during the time of your appointment. Your counseling services may be eligible for reimbursement. Check with your insurance to verify your plan coverage.
What happens in a therapy session?
For many people, scheduling their first therapy session may seem scarier than the problem bringing them to therapy in the first place. In actuality, our first session will primarily consist of a brief discussion about confidentiality and your rights as a client, and you will tell me a little about the circumstances bringing you into counseling. One of the most important elements in therapy is the relationship between the client and the therapist. In that first session, you get to decide if you feel that I am the right fit to support you in achieving your therapeutic goals.
How many sessions do I need?
The number of sessions you need are up to you and the goals you have for therapy. Some treatment goals are easily remedied while others can take more time.
